Pairing: Hank "Beast" McCoy & Jean "Phoenix" Grey

Now for how this is going to work, you'll receive 10 points for using the "pairing" prompt and/or "character" prompt on TOP of the normal bi-weekly prompts. If you just write one or the other, you'll receive just 10 points, but if you do both that's 20 points on top of the normal 10 points per drabble.

The monthly Challenges will last from the 1st to the last day of the month at 11:59PM EST.
Please also be aware of the current "bi-weekly" prompt.
What if you don't like the pairing or character? You don't have to write them! They are just suggestions and a way for to see more mixture of characters/pairings. But if you want to try your hand at them, that's perfectly fine too! Encouraged even! Same thing goes if you write a poly ship, as long as two of the characters that are part of the "pairing" prompt appear, that's acceptable.

What if the work reads as more gen than a "pairing"? That's fine! That's kinda why I put the "&" instead of the "/" on the prompts themselves, so long as both characters show up in the work it would count! Also as long as you tag and/or mention that your drabble(s) fit the monthly challenge so I know to count them.

What if the character is more background/side character? Again perfectly fine and that would be acceptable, as long as you tag and/or mention that your drabble(s) fit the monthly challenge so I know to count them. 

Do I have to use the universe the picture presents? As always NO - Always use whatever universe you want to or some sort of amalgamation of canons you want to use. Most of these "pairings" won't be canon, more than likely, they will be two characters in the same frame.

When & How do we receive the monthly challenge banners? You'll receive the banners when I put the new Monthly Challenge next month, just like if I would be posting for the bi-weekly prompt. This time, however, anyone who participated in the Monthly Challenges will receive the banner.

Yay, Jubilee!! And hmm, Hank and Jean, interesting!

♥ I knew Jubilee will be a hit (or at least hopefully), but the new X-Men '97 season really made me want more of her (plus she'd be a good Fourth of July themed character with the fireworks). Also Hank/Jean is definitely a selfish want, lmao. I discovered that picture or another like it (I think it was an alt-universe) I think ages ago and I'm like WHY DOES NO ONE WRITE MORE ABOUT IT. I think they touched upon it with the time-displaced original team, but I haven't read those issues yet.

Yes, Jubilee is one of my faves, and I loved her jailbreak scene in the second episode of the new season.

As for Hank/Jean, yeah, it's definitely not something I've considered before, but now I'm definitely thinking about it! Honestly I never cared much about Jean when I was reading the comics growing up, but for some reason I find myself gravitating to her more and more in my writing...

That was I think the best scene of the new season so far ♥ Jubilee was always a character I liked probably because of my introduction to the animated series - I was really hoping for more of her in the new-old X-Men movies (we finally got introduced semi-properly with her in Apocalypse).

I totally get that!! Honestly, I haven't really been a fan of Jean like ever? Maybe when I was a real little (I know I loved the Phoenix storyline in the animated series & later the comics), but I think the films kinda made me dislike her? Or maybe Evolution. Or New X-Men which I think the first X-Men comic series I read as a kid minus a chunk of Claremont aged Uncanny X-Men titles, mainly with Madelyne Pryor - I don't know why gravitated/fell in love with Madelyne and the Phoenix more, but spent a good chunk of my life disliking her, but I found after rewatching Evolution a few years ago and watching the newer X-Men films (with young!Jean) I found I enjoyed her more than I did as a kid/teen. Maybe the actress change up helped? I've been writing her a lot more than I ever thought I would either. It just might be the separation of Jean and Scott, I'm not a fan of that pairing so I much prefer her with another person.

Really interesting! Especially about gravitating more to Madelyne than to Jean. I have to admit I get a little lost with the whole Jean/Madelyne thing in the comics. 0.0 But I think I turned a corner with Jean when I re-read the Dark Phoenix saga recently, and I got really into the idea of Scott being this repressed Boy Scout type and Jean having this sort of mischievous dark side that she teases him with, and it's been fun exploring that dynamic. :)

Quick question and sorry if this is explained somewhere and I just missed it, but does a fic written for the monthly challenge also need to use the prompt from the bi-weekly challenge?

No worries - Yes it does, and it explains it in each monthly challenge/FAQ part: "you'll receive 10 points for using the "pairing" prompt and/or "character" prompt on TOP of the normal bi-weekly prompts." And if you do both the "pairing" & "character" prompts ON TOP of the normal bi-weekly prompt, that would 30 points (10 for each).

I think at the beginning no one realized it - and I still counted it because I hadn't realized no one noticed it.

Thanks for clarifying! Yeah, I think I was confused about the "on top of" part, but that makes sense now! :)
